Resist the Far-Right

WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER

The day Donald Trump was elected, the Australian far-right rejoiced. President Trump’s anti-Muslim, anti-refugee, anti-climate and anti-women agenda might make you sick in the stomach, but it’s music to the ears of local right-wingers like Abbott, Hanson, Bernardi, Dutton, Christensen and more. So it’s time for us to take action.

Everything the Greens do is powered by all of us. Now is the time to come together – at rallies, in town halls and in our online communities – to turn the fear and uncertainty created by Trump into a movement right around the country.

“Instead of celebrating and fawning over the US president, now is the time for leadership, to express that in the strongest possible terms and to make it clear that Australia does not support what this president is doing.”

Dr Richard Di Natale
Australian Greens Leader

“All over the world people are taking a stand against those who seek to divide us. The Greens are committed to supporting those under attack and fighting for a fair and just society.”

Lee Rhiannon
Greens Senator

“People like Trump have fooled people into thinking that they are looking after the best interests of the poor, marginalised and vulnerable, but it could not be further from the truth. Far right politicians will continue to increase the gap between the rich and the poor whilst sacrificing our planet. That is why I will continue to stand against them.”

Rachel Siewert
Greens Senator

“Donald Trump is a terrifying symptom of the rise of the ultra-right. We can be the antidote to his message of hate, but only if we stand together as one.”

Sarah Hanson-Young
Greens Senator

“When those with the most money and privilege abuse their power using bigotry and fear, it’s up to the rest of us to fight with love and compassion. When they trash the science on catastrophic global warming, the entire planet needs us to resist and work for a positive future.”

Janet Rice
Greens Senator

“We can see America sliding into early-onset fascism and there is a danger that Australia will follow. Racism, Islamophobia and the inhumane treatment of people seeking asylum have no place in a civilised democracy. We have to resist them with every fibre of our being.”

Nick McKim
Greens Senator

“Trump’s ugly sexism, his attacks on the world’s poorest women by banning aid for abortion services has emboldened those here who want to roll back progress for women. The Greens stand with tens of thousands of Australians who took to the streets in protest and together we’ll stop them.”

Larissa Waters
Greens Co-Deputy Leader

“With politicians on the far-right using their power to drive hate and division, we must come together to spread love and acceptance. We must fight alongside the people being targeted by the far-right to protect the rights of everyone.”

Adam Bandt
Federal Greens MP

“Trump is a product of the US, but a problem for us all. History won’t look kindly on those who tried to appease or normalise this thing. We must stand up. Not in order to return to the deadening status quo, but to remind ourselves that another world is possible.”

Scott Ludlam
Greens Co-Deputy Leader

PROTECTING 18C

The Senate Inquiry into proposed changes to the Racial Discrimination Act has tabled its findings.

It is clear that racism and hate speech are doing serious harm to people across Australia. The far-right want to make it easier to be racist.

The evidence received by the Committee overwhelmingly supports retaining the existing protections against racism and hate speech. The personal experiences of racism that were presented to the Inquiry make it painfully clear that racism and hate speech are causing serious harm to people across Australia.

Only the Greens have been clear and consistent: we will block any irresponsible changes to the Racial Vilification Act.

SPEAKING OUT

Bigotry, hatred and racism have no place in Australia – and no place in our Parliament.

Greens in Parliament represent the interests of all Australians and stand up to the politics of hate and division – through debate, motions and questions in the House of Representatives and the Senate, and through our involvement in Parliamentary Committees and public inquiries.

Here is a selection of our work from Parliament.

PETITIONS

Coal or the Reef?

Climate denial is a feature of right wing politicians at home and overseas. Let’s call on Malcolm Turnbull to reject the dinosaurs in his party and the conspiracy theorists in the One Nation party and, instead, start listening to the scientists, economists and World Heritage Committee’s warnings to stop digging up coal.

A better way to treat asylum seekers

According to Scott Morrison, Donald Trump’s ban on Muslim’s attempting to enter the United States demonstrations the world is “catching up to Australia” when it comes to treatment of asylum seekers. These are disgraceful, illegal policies, and we need to show the far-right that there is a better way.

Stand with us against racism

Racism and hate speech have no place in our communities or our Parliament. Multiculturalism is built into the fabric of Australian society, and we believe that our diversity is worth celebrating. When our pledge reaches 50,000 we’ll take our voices to Parliament.

Protect the Racial Discrimination Act

Malcolm Turnbull and his right wing mates are trying to make it easier for people to be racist. We must not let this happen. Add your name to our petition and join us in protecting the Racial Discrimination Act.

Domestic violence

The conservatives claims to support action on domestic violence, but at the same time, cut funding to services. This hypocrisy will cost lives, so join us in calling for better funding of frontline services to stop victims of domestic violence falling through the cracks.

The Trump presidency is in its infancy but, already, our worst-held fears have been realised. The new President has hurriedly delivered on the disgusting anti-Muslim, anti-refugee, anti-climate and anti-women campaign which brought him to power.

Back home, we have seen One Nation and the government’s right-wing rejoice in Trump’s agenda to foster inequality while turning his back on some of the most vulnerable people in the world. Make no mistake, the far-right’s climate denying, refugee- and migrant-hating policies clearly demonstrate that the fascist policies of Donald Trump are well and truly alive in Australia. Right now, we are at risk of following the US President down his hateful rabbit hole.

We will not wait for yet another terrible announcement from Washington. Our movement against the politics of Donald Trump begins now.

Everything the Greens do is powered by people. Now is the time to turn the fear and uncertainty created by Trump into action right around the country.

As our campaign is kicking into the next gear, we’re going to need support to produce the impact we all desire. Regular donations give us an ability to look further forward in our planning, please consider making your donation monthly:
